ATOM BOMB
Nuclear gain for low-tuned riffs
Hit a palm-muted low string for a short, percussive thump. Lift your picking hand and the same chord opens into a ragged roar.
We built ATOM BOMB with Strange Angles around the two channels of the FAT MAN head. Back off the gain for a wiry crunch, or wind it up until a single note hangs on for the next bar.
Hear the two FAT MAN channels
Loop a riff on CH1, then flip to CH2 with the same pedals and cab. Listen to the first pick stroke and how the last chord breaks up.
- Keep GAIN low for an open crunch that follows your picking hand.
- Turn it up for thicker distortion and longer sustain.
- Bring the mids forward when a rhythm part needs more growl.
- Use TIGHT to rein in the low end on a drop-tuned chug.
Try the amp and cab on their own first. Add a drive when you want the front edge of the riff to bite harder.
Push the amp with drive or fuzz
A boost sharpens the start of a fast riff. Fuzz lets a slow chord fray at the edges. Choose from seven pedals and stack up to four in front of the amp.
SCREAM, SNARL, HYPER + CHAOS
Use SCREAM to firm up a loose low string. SNARL adds overdrive, HYPER brings fuzz, and CHAOS gives a power chord a chainsaw rasp.
MERCILESS DRIVE, OD-X + SWOLE
Try MERCILESS DRIVE or the PUSH switch on MERCILESS OD-X for a more insistent attack. For thick, sustaining fuzz, reach for SWOLE and set its FILTER against the cab.
Hear what the pedal order does
Put a drive before the fuzz, play the riff, then swap their order. Bypass one slot at a time to hear which pedal gives you the attack you want.
Shape the sound around the riff
Find the right cab for the low end
Play the same palm mute through the three built-in cabs. Listen for the balance between pick noise and low-end thump, or load a favourite cab IR.
Take the riff down an octave
Use TRANSPOSE to hear your part in a lower tuning before reaching for the tuning pegs. Shift the input in semitones, up or down an octave.
Let the lead ring out
Sync ECHO to the song for distinct repeats, or put a CHAMBER reverb tail under a held note. Use the 10-band CONTOUR EQ to make space for the bass.

Dial in the attack and low end
Palm mute your lowest string while you set TIGHT. Then let a chord ring while you adjust MID and PRESENCE. You can hear what each control does on the part you’re about to record.
