Best Tonex Profiles for Metal in 2026: Ranked Picks
Vic Audio Savage Power Tonex Profiles is the only true ToneX-format metal pack in Oracle Sound's 2026 catalogue — buy it if you're already running IK Multimedia's ToneX plugin or pedal. If you're open to switching formats, Tonectomy Brutal Guitar Tone NAM Profiles wins for death metal and deathcore, Wvrmfood Hardcore High Gain NAM Profiles wins for hardcore and metalcore, and Suneater Doom Sludge Stoner Guitar Tone NAM Profiles wins for anything tuned below drop C.
- Vic Audio Savage Power Tonex Profiles is Oracle Sound's only native ToneX pack for metal in 2026 — buy it if you already run ToneX.
- Most of the catalogue ships as NAM captures, a free, separate format that will not load in ToneX or vice versa.
- Tonectomy Brutal Guitar Tone NAM Profiles targets death metal and deathcore; Wvrmfood Hardcore High Gain NAM Profiles targets metalcore.
- Suneater Doom Sludge Stoner Guitar Tone NAM Profiles is the only pick built for doom and sludge tone.
- Format compatibility, not amp reputation, is the first filter when shopping best tonex profiles for metal.
Why this matters
Searches for "best tonex profiles for metal" mostly turn up capture packs that never mention which plugin they actually load into. NAM (Neural Amp Modeler) and ToneX are two separate neural-capture formats — a file built for one will not open in the other, full stop. That distinction matters more than any amp name on the box.
Oracle Sound's catalogue leans NAM in 2026, because Neural Amp Modeler is free and open-source, and most of the label's metal releases are built around it. Vic Audio Savage Power Tonex Profiles is the exception — a Tone Model built specifically for players running IK Multimedia's ToneX plugin or pedal hardware. If you don't already own ToneX, that single fact should decide your shopping list before you look at a single amp name.
The best NAM profiles for metal guitar tone guide covers the NAM side of this catalogue in more depth if you're set on that route.
What makes the best Tonex profiles for metal
- Format compatibility — a ToneX Tone Model only loads in ToneX; a NAM capture only loads in Neural Amp Modeler.
- Capture source reputation — named amps and pedals behind the profile (Diezel VH4, Bogner Uberschall, EVH 5150 and similar high-gain rigs show up across this catalogue).
- Genre specificity — doom, deathcore, metalcore and hardcore all need different midrange and gain shaping.
- Headroom for palm mutes and pinch harmonics without the capture fizzing out under high-gain riffing.
- Bundled IR/cab count, where the product actually states it — Vic Audio Metal 2 NAM, for example, ships 22 IRs.
- Plugin cost path — Neural Amp Modeler is free; ToneX requires IK Multimedia's plugin or pedal.

1. Vic Audio Savage Power Tonex Profiles: best true ToneX format for high-gain metal
This is the only Tone Model in Oracle Sound's 2026 lineup built to load natively into IK Multimedia's ToneX plugin or pedal — no conversion, no workaround. It's positioned for high-gain metal players who already committed to the ToneX ecosystem and don't want to hunt through third-party marketplaces for a genre-matched capture.
Vic Audio Savage Power Tonex Profiles pros:
- Loads directly into ToneX without any plugin swap
- Fits players who own ToneX hardware and want a metal-specific option from a known catalogue
- Same Savage Power naming and gain-forward approach as Oracle Sound's other high-gain releases
Vic Audio Savage Power Tonex Profiles cons:
- Locked to the ToneX ecosystem — it won't load in NAM, Kemper or Axe-Fx
- The only ToneX-format release currently in the catalogue, so there's no second option to A/B against within the brand
Best for: metal producers already running ToneX who want a genre-specific pack without switching plugins. Verdict: Buy if you own ToneX. Skip if you're on NAM, Kemper, or Cortex — the file won't open.
2. Tonectomy Brutal Guitar Tone NAM Profiles: best for death metal and deathcore
Built around captures from the Bogner Uberschall, Diezel VH4 and ENGL Powerball, this pack targets the surgical, mid-scooped high-gain tone that death metal and deathcore mixes ask for. It's NAM format, so it runs in the free Neural Amp Modeler plugin rather than ToneX.
Tonectomy pros:
- Named captures from three well-known extreme-gain amps
- Runs in Neural Amp Modeler, which costs nothing to install
- Gain character suited to palm-mute clarity at fast tempos
Tonectomy cons:
- Won't load in ToneX — NAM only
- Narrow genre focus means it's less useful outside brutal/death tone
Best for: death metal and deathcore producers on Neural Amp Modeler. Verdict: Buy.
3. Wvrmfood Hardcore High Gain NAM Profiles: best for hardcore and metalcore
Wvrmfood pulls from six named amps — the 5153, Soldano SLO, Crab CALI, Crab SATAN, Diezel VH4 and Bogner Uberschall — giving it a wider high-gain spread than a single-amp pack. That range suits hardcore and metalcore tracks that shift between breakdown chug and lead runs.
Wvrmfood pros:
- Six named high-gain amps in one pack
- NAM format keeps the plugin cost at zero
- Strong midrange bite for breakdown-heavy arrangements
Wvrmfood cons:
- Broader amp spread than a single-voicing pack, meaning more preset auditioning
- NAM-only, no ToneX version
Best for: hardcore and metalcore producers who want amp variety in one NAM pack. Verdict: Buy.
4. Suneater Doom Sludge Stoner Guitar Tone NAM Profiles: best for doom, sludge and stoner metal
Suneater is the only pack in this list built specifically for doom, sludge and stoner tone rather than fast, high-gain riffing. It's aimed at low-tuned guitars that need low-end weight without turning to mud.
Suneater pros:
- Only genre-specific doom/sludge/stoner pack in the catalogue
- NAM format, no extra hardware needed
- Fills a gap none of the other five packs address
Suneater cons:
- Not built for high-gain metalcore leads
- NAM-only, no ToneX release currently listed
Best for: doom, sludge and stoner producers working in drop tunings. Verdict: Buy.
5. Vic Audio Metal 2 NAM: best all-purpose modern metal starter pack
This is the broadest single pack in the group: 20 DI captures across 10 amps, 10 pedal captures, and 22 IRs, including an EVH 5150-based voicing. It's a wider net than the genre-specific packs above, which makes it a reasonable starting point rather than a specialist tool.
Vic Audio Metal 2 NAM pros:
- 20 DI captures across 10 amps plus 22 IRs in one pack
- Includes an EVH 5150-style voicing, a modern metal reference point
- NAM format, free plugin
Vic Audio Metal 2 NAM cons:
- Broad spread trades specialization for coverage
- NAM-only
Best for: producers who want breadth over one specialized voicing. Verdict: Hold if you already own a genre-matched pack above — buy this one first if you don't.
6. Tonal Brutality Metal Guitar Tone NAM Profiles: best for pedal-boosted extreme gain
Tonal Brutality channels seven named amps — the 5150, Dual Rectifier, 100H, Satan, Thrasher, Fireball and Boogie — alongside multiple high-gain pedal captures. It's built for players stacking a boost pedal in front of an already-hot amp for extreme lead tone.
Tonal Brutality pros:
- Seven named amp references plus pedal captures in one pack
- Suited to pedal-boosted lead and rhythm tones
- NAM format
Tonal Brutality cons:
- Wide amp spread means more time auditioning presets to land a mix-ready tone
- NAM-only
Best for: players running a boost pedal into a high-gain amp for extreme lead tone. Verdict: Buy.
How we ranked these
Every pack above gets scored against the same six criteria: format compatibility, named capture source, genre fit, gain headroom, stated IR/cab count, and plugin cost path. Vic Audio Savage Power Tonex Profiles ranks first only because it's the sole entry that matches the literal search — a real ToneX Tone Model — not because it beats the NAM packs on tone.
Everything below it is ranked by how tightly the amp selection matches a specific metal subgenre, since a pack that tries to cover every style usually serves none of them as well as a focused one.
“A NAM capture will not load into ToneX — format compatibility beats the amp name every time.”
Which Tonex profile pack should you choose in 2026?
If you already own ToneX hardware or the plugin, Vic Audio Savage Power Tonex Profiles is the only pack in this list that will actually load — buy it and skip the rest. If you're not locked into ToneX, Neural Amp Modeler costs nothing, and the genre-matched NAM pack wins: Tonectomy for death metal and deathcore, Wvrmfood for hardcore and metalcore, Suneater for doom and sludge, Tonal Brutality for pedal-boosted extreme gain, and Vic Audio Metal 2 NAM if you want one broad starting point before buying anything more specific in 2026.
FAQ
What's the best Tonex profile for metal in 2026?
Vic Audio Savage Power Tonex Profiles is the only Tonex-native pack built for metal in Oracle Sound's 2026 catalogue, so it's the direct answer if you already run ToneX. If you're open to switching formats, Tonectomy Brutal Guitar Tone NAM Profiles and Wvrmfood Hardcore High Gain NAM Profiles cover more specific metal subgenres.
Can I load a NAM profile into ToneX?
No. NAM captures and ToneX Tone Models are separate file formats that only run in their own plugin, so a NAM file bought for one won't open in the other. Check the format listed on the product page before buying.
Is ToneX or NAM better for metal guitar tone?
Neither format wins on tone alone — the amps captured matter more than the container. NAM is free and open-source, which is why most of Oracle Sound's metal catalogue ships that way; ToneX requires IK Multimedia's plugin or hardware.
How much do Tonex profile packs cost?
Pricing varies by pack and changes over time, so check the current listing on each product page before buying. Oracle Sound lists Tonex and NAM tone packs separately by format on its store.
Do I need special hardware to use Tonex profiles?
You need IK Multimedia's ToneX plugin or a ToneX-compatible pedal to load a native Tone Model file. NAM profiles run in the free Neural Amp Modeler plugin without extra hardware.
What amps do Oracle Sound's metal tone packs capture?
Packs across the catalogue reference amps including the Diezel VH4, Bogner Uberschall, ENGL Powerball, EVH 5150 and Soldano SLO, depending on the specific pack. Vic Audio Metal 2 NAM alone ships 20 DI captures across 10 amps plus 22 IRs.
What's the difference between a NAM profile and a Tonex profile?
Both are neural network captures of an amp or pedal's tone, but they're built for different plugins and aren't interchangeable. NAM is a free, open-source format; ToneX is IK Multimedia's commercial format tied to its own plugin and pedal ecosystem.
Which Oracle Sound pack is best for doom or sludge metal?
Suneater Doom Sludge Stoner Guitar Tone NAM Profiles is the only pack in the 2026 lineup built specifically for low-tuned doom and sludge tone. It ships in NAM format, so it needs the free Neural Amp Modeler plugin rather than ToneX.
One last thing
Neural Amp Modeler is free and open-source; ToneX is not. That single fact is why Oracle Sound's 2026 metal catalogue is mostly NAM with one ToneX exception, and it's the real reason "best tonex profiles for metal" searches turn up so few genuine matches — most of the market builds for the free format first.
